Ceramics are of all times and all cultures

Jaap Jongstra studied Art History at the University of Leiden. From 1998 to 2014 he worked in the Princessehof Ceramics Museum in Leeuwarden, The Netherlands. After 2004 he held the position of assistant curator of European Ceramics. By studying the extensive collections of European, Islamic and Asian ceramics he has developed into a leading expert on the subject. His specialism is European Ceramics from the Middle Ages till the present day.

The five objects depicted are the most beautiful and remarkable delftware and porcelain items that Jaap Jongstra acquired for the Princessehof Ceramics Museum at Leeuwarden. The acquisitions were made possible by the Ottema-Kingma Foundation and The Rembrandt Association.
